Moin “Moon” Khan is a walking anthology of hard work, academic excellence, and commitment to people and communities around him.

Moon is the first Asian American who got elected as a Trustee of York Township, DuPage County, and the first Muslim elected in the state of Illinois. Because of his outreach efforts in the 50,000 strong Asian American community of DuPage County, Moon has been appointed as the Asian American Liaison of the DuPage County Republican Party by its president, State Senator Kirk Dillard.

Moon's commitment to coalition building attracted the attention of the Society of Daughters of the American Revolution, which bestowed upon him its prestigious Americanism Award in 2005.

A fervent champion of the rights of new immigrants and people of various ethnic groups, Moon ably served on the board of Illinois Ethnic Coalition, which drew primary funding from the American Jewish Committee and several other prominent social service organizations. A resident of Lombard (a suburb of Chicago), husband of Shanu, and father of Shaan, Moon assisted in publishing the famous Asian American Journalists Association's Handbook. Later, he assisted in putting out a similar but more comprehensive informational ethnic white page like handbook, published by the Illinois Ethnic Coalition.

The lead of a profile published in the Chicago Tribune began with this sentence: Moon "is a man with a mission." His mission is to create respect and political empowerment for all ethnic groups.

A patriot to the hilt, Moon has been speaking and writing on how to integrate new immigrants into the mainstream America without restricting their heritage and uniqueness. In its editorial on October 9, 2001, the Chicago Tribune lauded Moon's efforts in encouraging Muslims of America in standing up against US enemies.

A prolific writer, motivational speaker, and contributing columnist of several ethnic newspapers, Moon has helped organize numerous candidates' forums during the election time to generate political awareness among new immigrants and fundraiser to assist disaster victims.

Working full time as Director of Information Resources, Moon's second job has been volunteerism. Moon has served on the board of directors of more than two dozen social service and charitable organizations that include the Asian American Institute (Director), Asian American Journalists Association (Vice President), Bihar Cultural Association (Founding President), DuPage Chapters of American Cancer Society and United Way (Director), India Development Service (Board Member), Federation of Indian Associations (Secretary, Vice President, President-Elect), Toastmasters International's Cook County Chapter (Vice President, Area Governor), Council of Islamic Organization's Media Relations Committee (Secretary), Asian American Coalition's Media Relations Committee 1994 (Chairman), National Federation of Indian Association's 8th Biennial 1994 Convention (Publicity Committee Chairperson), Islamic Society of North America's 1997 National Convention's Media Relations Committee (chairperson), Village of Bloomingdale's Fourth of July Commission (Commissioner), and elected Committeeman of the York Township of the Republican Organizations.

Former Community Editor of the India Tribune and Chief Editor of Spotlight Weekly, Moon has anchored the Community News segment of Bharat Darshan, an Indian community's cable-based TV program.
Founding President of the Asian American Caucus of DuPage, Moon holds M.A. and M.B.A. degrees along with certifications in computer networking like M.C.S.E. and C.N.A.

For his community activities, Moon has been widely profiled and quoted in the major mainstream and ethnic news media that include the Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun-Times, Daily Herald, Daily Southtown, Islamic Horizon, India Tribune, India Abroad, Editor and Publisher, Asian Week, Via Times, Daily Chronicle, The Muslim Observer, Pakistan Link, Lombardian, Lombard Spectator, and Hindustan Times. He also appeared on Voice of America, WTTW Channel 11's Chicago Tonight with John Calloway and Phil Ponce, WGN TV, BBC World Service, Doordarshan - India's national TV, Kolkata TV of India, GEO TV of Pakistan,  WGN 720 Radio, WBEZ/NPR, and on almost all local ethnic and mainstream TV channels and radio programs. He was quoted in the Chicago Tribune's Editorial several times.

For his outreach works, Moon has been honored with numerous awards that include the India Tribune's Community Activist Award, Indo-American Democratic Organization's President's Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service, Northern Illinois University's Outstanding Graduate Award, Intercollegiate Asian American Students Association of Chicago's Exemplary Human Services Award, Federation of India Association's Community Service Award, Bihar Cultural Association's Dr. Rajendra Prasad Award for Social Services, and Asian American community's Asian Hall of Fame Award.
